The course is designed to present the sonography student with detailed explanations of sound physics and instrumentation, the theory of physics principles and their practical applications. Principles of instrumentation and practical applications are presented in a laboratory setting, correlating theory with clinical application. This course examines physical principles of sonography and focuses on explanation of various sonography-related terms and concepts such as piezoelectricity, echoes, wavelength, frequency, refraction, acoustic impedance, propagation, sound beam generation, power, intensity, reflection, attenuation, bandwidth, resolution and more.
