SON1113 - Sonographic Cross-Sectional Anatomy Credits: 3 The course introduces sonographic representation of the abdomen, thorax, vascular and superficial structures, female and male pelvic organs, cranium and brain anatomy. Students will build on their existing entry-level gross anatomy knowledge base to develop recognition of organs and their relationships in axial, sagittal and oblique planes. Students will also be introduced to organ recognition on other cross-sectional imaging modalities used in conjunction with sonography such as computed tomography. Topics include organ structure, scanning planes, patient positioning, and terminology. Emphasis is on visualization of the appearance and the relationships of body organs in the planar sections. This course enables the student to picture and mentally reconstruct the human body in three-dimensional planes as it relates to diagnostic sonographic imaging.
