The mission of academic advising at CF is to provide students with comprehensive advising that supports academic achievement, retention, graduation, university transfer, employment and personal success. Each student - whether seeking Certificates, Associate in Science, Associate in Arts, Bachelor of Applied Science, or Bachelor of Science degrees - is assigned an Educational Advisor upon admission to the college.
First-Year Success Advising
First Time in College (FTIC) students StartSmart@CF by attending an in-person orientation session. At orientation, you will meet with your assigned First-Year Success Specialist (FYS), receive an advising syllabus which helps to define student and advisor roles and responsibilities, and receive assistance with course selection and registration. After orientation, continue to meet with your assigned educational advisor for services such as pathway guidance and future term registration. You may make an appointment with your assigned educational advisor by using Calendly or by calling the Advising Center. We offer appointments in-person, by phone, or via Zoom. After earning 15 credits, FTIC students transition to an educational advisor assigned based on the selected pathway.
Educational Advising
Students who have transitioned from First-Year advising, who transfer to CF, or who are not First Time in College students are assigned to an educational advisor based on their selected pathway. Students must meet with their assigned advisor - after completing online orientation - to complete the first course registration. You may make an appointment with your educational advisor using Calendly or by calling the Advising Center. At this appointment, students receive an advising syllabus which helps to define student and advisor roles and responsibilities. Associate in Arts degree-seeking students will be required to submit a transfer plan to their advisor at the completion of 30 credit hours. Students may also receive assistance with a question or problem concerning course selection, registration, academic progress, a graduation check, questions or requests for assistance in transferring to a four-year institution. Students planning to transfer to four-year programs should begin early to work with their advisor in planning their coursework to include prerequisites for transfer and any other admission requirements. Go to CF.edu/Advising for additional information.
A variety of student support services is available through the advising department at the Wilton Simpson Citrus and Jack Wilkinson Levy campuses, including academic advisement, testing, career exploration, academic support, transfer assistance and personal counseling referrals.
An online advising service is also available to prospective and current students. E-advise is able to answer quick questions or concerns that would not require an in-person appointment. Email requests sent while the college is closed will be responded to on the next college business day (response time may be longer during peak times). Full academic plans, degree audits and graduation checks cannot be provided through this service. You may email eadvise@cf.edu.
