I am delighted to welcome you to the 2023-2024 academic year! The core of every great learning institution is the faculty. College of Central Florida greatly benefits from the dedication and professionalism that each of you provide to our students. With your continued dedication to our values and our students, 86% of our graduates are found working in their field or continuing their education after graduation.
This faculty handbook provides general information and administrative procedures. You will find additional information in the CF District Board of Trustees Policy Manual, Employee Handbook, Salary Schedule and Related Personnel Policies, Student Handbook and College Catalog. I encourage you to take advantage of the many resources available to you.

Faculty Responsibility in Academic Affairs
The responsibility for the improvement of the educational program resides primarily with the faculty, and ultimately, with the vice president for Academic Affairs and the president, who makes recommendations to the District Board of Trustees. Participation in the curricular process is a most important role of the faculty. This is evidenced by faculty participation in the governance structure of the college. All committees function for the support of students or the improvement of learning. The committees with a primary focus on learning at the college are the Curriculum Committee, the Teaching Learning Institute Steering Committee, the Learning Outcomes Steering Committee and the discipline-specific committees within each division of the college.
Tobacco-free College
College of Central Florida strives to promote the health and wellness of its students and employees as well as a safe, comfortable environment for all who work, study, conduct business, or visit the college. Therefore, it is the policy of the District Board of Trustees that the College of Central Florida shall be a tobacco-free college. www.CF.edu/Tobaccofree
- Tobacco of any kind, in any form shall be prohibited at the College of Central Florida. This includes but is not limited to cigarettes, cigars, pipes, inhalers, vaporizers and electronic smoking-simulated instruments.* Snuff, chewing tobacco, and other tobacco products are also prohibited.
- The use of tobacco of any kind shall be prohibited on all college owned, operated, leased, and/or controlled properties and facilities such as: buildings, student housing, bridges, walkways, sidewalks, parking lots and garages, on-campus streets and driveways, grounds, and exterior open spaces including the Enterprise Center and the Appleton Museum of Art.
- Tobacco use shall be prohibited in all college leased or owned vehicles both on and off college property.
- Tobacco use shall be prohibited in all personal vehicles while on college property.
- Smoking materials must be extinguished prior to entering upon any CF property without exception. All tobacco products in use must be disposed of appropriately prior to entering upon any CF property which includes enclosed vehicles.
- The sale of cigarettes and other tobacco products, and the free distribution of tobacco products are prohibited.
- This policy does not apply to off-campus facilities leased or used by the college for college events or functions. On those occasions, the tobacco policy of the facility shall be applicable.
- The president or designee is authorized to develop procedures to implement this policy including provisions for notification, signage, compliance, and enforcement.
*Electronic smoking simulated cigarettes (e-cigarettes) produce a vapor of undetermined and potentially harmful substances, which may appear similar to the smoke emitted by traditional tobacco products. Their use in workplaces and public places where smoking of traditional tobacco products is prohibited creates concern and confusion and leads to difficulties in enforcing the smoking prohibitions.

Accreditation and Memberships
The College of Central Florida is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award associate and baccalaureate degrees. College of Central Florida is also approved by the Florida Department of Education to award associate degrees, baccalaureate degrees, college credit certificates and occupational certificates.

- The Applied Technology Diploma in Dental Assisting program is accredited by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation and has been granted the accreditation status of “approval without reporting requirements.” The Commission is a specialized accrediting body recognized by the United States Department of Education. - The Associate in Science degree in Nursing, R.N. program, the Associate in Science degree in Nursing - Licensed Practical Nurse to Associate Degree Nursing program, the Associate in Science degree in Paramedic to Associate Degree Nursing program and the Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing program are approved by the Florida Board of Nursing and accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing Inc., 3343 Peachtree Road, NE, Suite 850, Atlanta, Georgia 30326, telephone 404-975-5000.

- The Associate in Science degree in Surgical Services program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, www.caahep.org, upon the recommendation of the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting. - The College Credit Certificate in Paramedic program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, www.caahep.org, upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions, CoAEMSP, 1361 Park Street, Clearwater, FL 33756, telephone 727-210-2350, website www.caahep.org. It also meets the standards of the 1998 EMT/Paramedic National Curriculum from U.S. Department of Transportation.
The programs listed below are approved or certified by the agencies listed. Please reference each program of study for specific statements regarding approval or certification.
• The Career and Technical certificate program in Correctional Officer and the Career and Technical certificate program in Florida Law Enforcement Academy are approved by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission, P.O. Box 1489, Tallahassee, FL 32302-1489, telephone 850-410-8600.
The college holds memberships in the American Association of Community Colleges, the Association of Florida Colleges, and the Association of Community College Trustees. Among other memberships are the National Junior College Athletic Association, the National League for Nursing, and Florida Campus Compact.
CF has been approved by the state of Florida as an institution in which recipients of General Scholarship Loans for Preparation of Teachers (awarded by the state) may take the first two years of college work. Additionally, the college participates in the Drug-Free Workplace Program.
The state Department of Education will accept work taken at the college to satisfy various certification requirements. CF is state-approved for veterans training under Public Law 550, Public Law 89-358 (Veterans Readjustment Benefits Act of 1966), and for the education of disabled veterans and war orphans.
State Authorization for Distance Learning
The U.S. Department of Education has specified that all colleges and universities offering distance education courses outside of their state must be authorized by each state in which they are offering courses. The U.S. DOE released the following: “If an institution is offering postsecondary education through distance or correspondence education to students in a state in which it is not physically located or in which it is otherwise subject to state jurisdiction as determined by the state, the institution must meet any state requirements for it to be legally offering postsecondary distance or correspondence education in that state. An institution must be able to document the secretary of the state’s approval upon request” (Chapter 34, § 600.0(c) Higher Education Opportunity Act).
The State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement is a national initiative to ensure compliance standards are met when online courses are taken by students residing outside of the state in which the college is located. To learn more about SARA, please visit www.nc-sara.org/sara-states-institutions. The College of Central Florida is a member of the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements. This agreement allows the college to offer online instruction to students in every US state, district and major territory, other than California, the Mariana Islands, American Samoa, Guam, the Marshal Islands, Micronesia, and Palau. A student who is a resident of CA, CNMI, AS, GU, MH, FM, or PW and is interested in taking courses at the College of Central Florida is encouraged to contact the College or visit https://www.nc-sara.org/sara-states-institutions to see if the state, district or territory’s status has changed.
Although the College of Central Florida is authorized to offer online instruction in other states, the college’s online programs are not automatically accepted to meet any professional licensure requirements of any other jurisdiction. The college does not design or intend for any of its online programs to meet such requirements in any specific jurisdiction. The college is in the process of determining licensure status for its various degrees and programs, both online and on campus. Further determinations are pending.
For students seeking a professional license in another state, it is important that the student seeks information about the requirements in their chosen state. A good place to start is the US Department of Education. The student should not assume that one of the college’s programs will qualify them to seek licensure in any state, based on the program title, area of study or any other criteria. All student complaints should first follow the college’s complaint procedures. If the complaint cannot be resolved through the college’s complaint procedures, the student may contact the Division of Florida Colleges for additional information. If neither of these resolves the complaint, distance education students may appeal non-instructional complaints to the Florida State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement Post Secondary Reciprocal Distance Education Coordinating Council. For a student who resides outside of Florida and applies for or enrolls in a program that could reasonably be construed to lead to professional licensure, please make sure that the college has the correct email address on file as the college will contact the student regarding that program’s licensure status in the relevant state, district or territory.

Ombudsman
An ombudsman is a neutral third party who helps students address problems or concerns. At CF, you may contact the college ombudsman if you feel a policy or procedure is not being followed fairly by the college. The ombudsman is impartial, and considers the interests and concerns of all parties involved with the goal of achieving fair and equitable solutions. The ombudsman does not arbitrate, adjudicate, or participate in any internal or external processes.

Prohibition of Misrepresentation to Students and Others
The College of Central Florida strives to provide accurate, honest and clear information in print, online, broadcast media or oral presentations. The college will make every effort to avoid misrepresentation to students and others in communications made in writing, visually, orally, or through other means. All misrepresentations should be avoided; however, this procedure specifically applies to the three areas covered by statute 20 USC § 1094(c)(3). Those three areas include:
