The Fire Science Technology degree program offers the student a scientific understanding of fire and emergency hazards, with emphasis on effective prevention, control and management. The program will provide students an enhanced opportunity as current firefighters and staff to pursue various professional opportunities in Public Safety. General education courses are included to prepare the graduate to communicate and work effectively with all levels of society.
Alternative Ways to Earn Credit
Once a Fire Science Technology student has earned 15 or more college credits from within the Fire Science Technology program coursework (courses with an FFP prefix) at the College of Central Florida, they may be eligible for the following award of credits through course equivalency:
- Students who possess a recognized Florida State certification as a Fire Officer, Fire Inspector, Fire Instructor, or Safety Officer may also be eligible to receive college credit for specific courses in this program. - Students who are a Florida certified EMT and/or Paramedic may be eligible for up to 9 credits toward A.S. degree program electives upon review.
- Students seeking an A.S. degree in Fire Science Technology will only be awarded credit hours for training if the Paramedic training was completed at a CoAEMSP accredited program.
- 25% residency requirement mandated by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (Students must have earned a minimum of 25% of the credits toward their degree at CF)
